What a pleasure to interview my good friend, biz partner, internet radio host, metaphysician, author, wife, and mom (whew!) Lisa Tarves on the release of her second book, Just Believe: Commonsense Spirituality for the 21st Century. Expanding upon her 5-star rated debut Just Believe, released in 2012, this second edition expounds upon the spiritual principles and personal anecdotes Lisa shares with readers and offers a practical approach to incorporating spirituality into a high-tech, fast-paced world.
Lisa is also the host of Just Believe, which airs every Sunday at 7 p.m. Eastern and co-host of Love Liberty & Lip Gloss, which airs every Thursday at 7 p.m. Eastern on the Writestream Radio Network. She’s a co-founder of Writestream Radio and Writestream Publishing, where she puts her editing, marketing, and social media skills to work on behalf of clients.

1. Why a new edition to Just Believe?
I published Just Believe originally in 2012 through a large, well-known self-publishing company. When the book first came out I was proud that I had finally written my story, but I wasn’t thrilled with the finished product. It lacked my personality on the front cover and even the wording on the back cover wasn’t what I wanted. I was very much on my own with this company and since I had never published before, I needed guidance as to what my options were and how the finished product would look. I didn’t get that guidance. I was an account number to them. Now that I have my own publishing company and I know all the options and possibilities, I knew I could make “Just Believe” really my own and have it totally reflect me as a person. I also have two more books that will be part of this “series” so I wanted consistency in cover design and style.
2. What do you mean by “commonsense spirituality?”
Something I say often and is a big part of what I teach as a metaphysician is “common sense.” To solve most of our problems or answer our questions, all we have to do is really use our guts and things become very clear. Plus, I keep it simple in this book. I don’t make spirituality out to be the complicated subject that many authors do. I want it to be something anyone reading can relate with and understand.
3. Are there new things readers will learn about you and your work?
Yes. I hit a wall in 2014 early 2015 and questioned everything. I questioned my faith and had to decide if I still myself believed. It no longer mattered that I had amazing spiritual and metaphysical experiences throughout my life, I questioned everything. I explain what happened in the Preface to the book.
The next book is “Just Breathe.”I’m going to talk about how to stay spiritually connected and grounded in a technical world. So far what I’ve written I think everyone will be able to relate with. There will be lots of tips on getting through the stressful moments of our daily lives. “Just Be” will wrap up the series and will cover many of the subjects I talk about in the first two books plus some new ones and give practical practices that will allow people to not only exist, but to live a life full of love and joy. I want people to read these books and learn how to be in the moment. No matter what that moment is, LIVE IT!
5. What would you like most for your readers to take away from Just Believe: Commonsense Spirituality for the 21st Century?
I want readers to trust and believe that there are things in this world, and beyond this world, that are inexplicable but still actually exist. We’ve become so attached to instant gratification that we’ve stopped seeing the bigger plan. I want everyone to see the miracles around each of us every single day. There are many and we don’t even notice most of them. Miracles don’t come with a flashing neon sign that says “Here’s a Miracle Folks.” They can be subtle but they’re there.
6. Tell us about your radio show Just Believe, which airs every Sunday at 7 p.m. Eastern on the Writestream Radio Network. What is most rewarding about it for you?
I love helping people. I love guiding people. I love getting messages from the angels to give to a caller. I love that I have some of the best psychics around that feel the same way come on my show guide and comfort people with important life decisions. Plus, it’s just a really fun show that I work to keep very lighthearted while still helping hundreds of people each week.
Like I say often in my book, it’s not always easy! I’m completely guilty of not always walking my talk. But, I find that every time things get a little crazy, or that I get a little crazy, I reel myself back in and put every situation back into perspective. I always talk to God, to my deceased parents, and to the angels that surround me. I try very hard in a busy day to remember I’m never alone.
8. In your new book, you definitely keep it real by sharing your own difficulties staying spiritually connected in the aftermath of tragedy and loss. Why?
Because I’m a regular person with the same problems everyone else experiences. My husband and I have disagreements, my kids (now mostly grown) make mistakes, my dogs pee on the floor….you know, all the stuff that happens to everyone else in a day happens to me too. My ability to talk to angels doesn’t keep me from making bad decisions sometimes or over-reacting in certain situations. I’ve always been an open-book about my life so being honest is easy.
9. When can we expect the next book in the series?
I plan on releasing Just Breathe in early 2016. I’m really excited about it! I think people are really going to be able to connect with what I talk about in the book.
10. What are your goals for Writestream Radio and Writestream Publishing?
Great question! I want Writestream Radio to go on promoting self-published authors. I want it to be a resource for authors and readers to learn about books that don’t have the backing of a traditional publishing company. As we all know, traditional publishing deals are getting more and more rare and indie authors are taking over the industry as well they should! Writestream Publishing is the vehicle to make indie authors have it all. The best editors, formatters, cover design artists, marketers, social media experts, etc. at the very best prices. Writestream Publishing will be the company to tell stories that might not ever get told without our help. It’s all very exciting!
